About Kaimkillenbun
Kaimkillenbun is a small rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, situated approximately 27.5 kilometres north-east of Dalby and 92 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba. Covering around 208 square kilometres of the Darling Downs' rich agricultural land, the locality holds the distinction of being Queensland's longest place name. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 248 residents, with the surrounding area supporting grain cropping and livestock farming across the fertile Western Downs plains.
Kaimkillenbun is perhaps most famous for "The Bun Pub" (the historic Kenilworth Hotel, first licensed in 1911), whose walls bear signatures of soldiers who enlisted for World War I. The town gained broader recognition as the filming location for the 1983 Nicole Kidman film "Chase Through the Night" and is the birthplace of Olympic basketballer John Dorge. Dalby provides schools, shops, and services for residents, while Toowoomba is under an hour away. The locality has a post office established in 1909 and a strong sense of rural Darling Downs identity.
Kaimkillenbun falls under postcode 4406 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
