About Kangaroo Inn
Kangaroo Inn is a small rural locality in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, situated approximately 30 kilometres west of Naracoorte and 340 kilometres southeast of Adelaide. Covering around 29 square kilometres, it is a very sparsely populated farming district in the flat pastoral lands between the Coorong and the Victorian border. The locality's name dates back to early colonial settlement when kangaroos were abundant in the area.
Kangaroo Inn is a quiet agricultural area primarily devoted to sheep grazing, cattle farming, and some cropping. The flat, open landscape is typical of the South Australian southeast, with scattered gum trees and pastoral paddocks. There are no local services — residents travel to Naracoorte or Penola for shopping, schools, and medical care. The locality is near the renowned Coonawarra wine region, offering world-class cellar door experiences within a short drive.
Kangaroo Inn falls under postcode 5280 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mount Gambier electorate.
