About Kilgra
Kilgra is a small rural locality in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, situated approximately 10 kilometres north of Kyogle within the Kyogle Council local government area. Covering approximately 15 square kilometres, the locality is set amid the hilly pastoral country that characterises the Kyogle hinterland, close to the Queensland border. At the 2021 Census, Kilgra recorded a population of 79 residents, reflecting the tight-knit and predominantly agricultural character of the area.
The Summerland Way runs through the broader region, providing the main road link between Kyogle and the Queensland border. Kilgra is a quiet farming district where cattle grazing is the primary land use, and the landscape offers sweeping rural views typical of the Northern Rivers hinterland. Residents travel to Kyogle for shops, schools, and services, with Casino providing a larger range of retail and commercial facilities approximately 45 kilometres to the south.
Kilgra falls under postcode 2474 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lismore electorate.
