About Kinkuna
Kinkuna is a coastal locality in the Bundaberg Region of Queensland, situated approximately 30 kilometres south of Bundaberg and 57 kilometres north of Maryborough. With a 2021 Census population of just 105 residents spread across 124.4 square kilometres, it is a sparsely settled area defined by its natural landscape. The Elliott River forms the northern boundary while the Coral Sea and Hervey Bay frame the south-east, and much of the locality falls within the Burrum Coast National Park.
Kinkuna is best known for its pristine, undeveloped coastline and the Burrum Coast National Park, which attracts four-wheel-drive enthusiasts, anglers, and bush campers to its secluded beach camping areas. Green and loggerhead turtles nest on the beaches between November and March, making it a seasonal wildlife destination. The name Kinkuna is an Aboriginal word meaning 'laughing', reflecting the area's Indigenous heritage. Daily amenities and services are found in nearby Bundaberg, a 25 to 30 minute drive to the north.
Kinkuna falls under postcode 4670 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Burnett electorate.
