About Konnongorring
Konnongorring is a small rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 25 kilometres north of Goomalling along the Northam–Pithara Road, and around 130 kilometres north-east of Perth. Administered by the Shire of Goomalling, the locality covers a substantial 443 square kilometres of predominantly agricultural land and recorded a population of 76 residents in the 2021 Census. The name Konnongorring derives from an Aboriginal term in the Ballardong language, referring to a dark-coloured bulbous root that was roasted and eaten as food. The locality was gazetted in 1897 and the surrounding district has long been associated with cereal cropping and sheep grazing, which remain the backbone of the local rural economy.
Konnongorring retains a small community hub including a grain receival point, town hall, Uniting Church, and tennis courts — the hallmarks of a traditional wheatbelt settlement. A notable local landmark is the Gabby Quoi Quoi Lookout, which offers panoramic views across the landscape and provides a vantage point over extensive areas of native vegetation revegetation undertaken by local farming families. The historic Konnongorring Catholic Church, built in 1929 and dedicated to St Michael the Archangel, is another feature of local heritage interest. Residents rely on Goomalling for schools, shopping, and services, with Northam available as a larger regional centre approximately 55 kilometres to the south.
Konnongorring falls under postcode 6603 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
