About Kuitpo
Kuitpo is a rural locality in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia, situated within the Alexandrina Council area approximately 45 kilometres south of Adelaide. Covering just over 50 square kilometres at the edge of the Adelaide Hills, the locality had a population of 198 at the 2021 Census. The area is best known for the Kuitpo Forest — a major radiata pine plantation established in 1898 as one of South Australia's earliest and most significant forestry reserves.
The Kuitpo Forest dominates much of the locality and is managed by ForestrySA as part of the Mount Lofty Ranges forest estate, offering walking, cycling, and horse riding trails popular with Adelaide day-trippers and outdoor enthusiasts. The nearby township of Meadows provides a small general store and community facilities, while the broader Fleurieu Peninsula region offers wineries, rural produce, and coastal destinations. Kuitpo appeals to those seeking a deeply rural lifestyle surrounded by tall pine forest, fresh air, and the quiet serenity of the southern Adelaide Hills.
Kuitpo falls under postcode 5172 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
