About Kulin West
Kulin West is a vast rural locality in Western Australia's Central Wheatbelt region, situated approximately 300 kilometres east-south-east of Perth within the Shire of Kulin. Covering nearly 498 square kilometres of farmland, the locality has a population of 88 people and forms the western side of the Kulin townsite, which straddles the boundary between the two localities. The landscape is dominated by cereal crops, sheep farming, and the wide open skies characteristic of the WA wheatbelt.
Kulin West is adjacent to the town of Kulin, which provides the local community with essential services including a supermarket, school, medical facilities, and sporting clubs. The area is famous for the Tin Horse Highway — a celebrated 15-kilometre self-drive route east of Kulin adorned with over 70 colourful tin horse sculptures created by local farmers, originally inspired by the annual Kulin Bush Races at Jilakin Rock. Kulin West itself is home to the 'West Kulin Whoppa', one of the largest tin horses on the route, a proud symbol of the friendly rivalry between east and west Kulin farmers. This unique cultural landmark draws visitors from across WA and beyond.
Kulin West falls under postcode 6365 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
