About Kurnalpi
Kurnalpi is a remote locality in Western Australia's Goldfields region, situated approximately 100 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Covering an enormous 3,577 square kilometres of semi-arid scrubland and mulga woodland, it is one of the most sparsely populated localities in Australia, with a 2021 Census population of just four people. The area sits within the traditional country of the Wongutha people and has historical connections to early gold prospecting in the Eastern Goldfields.
The locality is characterised by red dirt tracks, vast open plains and the dramatic landscape typical of inland Western Australia. There are no towns or permanent settlements within Kurnalpi; the nearest services, including shops, schools and medical facilities, are found in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The area is occasionally visited by prospectors, four-wheel drive adventurers and those traversing the remote Outback roads of the Eastern Goldfields.
Kurnalpi falls under postcode 6431 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the North West Central (Mining and Pastoral) electorate.
