About Lady Barron
Lady Barron is the second largest settlement on Flinders Island, located in the far north-east of Tasmania within the Flinders Council local government area. The locality covers approximately 45.8 square kilometres on the southern tip of Flinders Island in the Furneaux Group of islands in the Bass Strait. With a population of 173 residents at the 2021 Census, Lady Barron serves as an important service and transport hub for the island, housing a small airport and a ferry terminal connecting to Bridport on the Tasmanian mainland.
Lady Barron is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering excellent beaches for scuba diving, sailing, surf and game fishing, as well as the scenic Lady Barron Foreshore Track that winds through coastal bushland to Yellow Beach. The town features a general store, fuel, a local tavern, and a pier — providing the essentials for island residents and visitors. Named for Lady Clara Barron, wife of a former Governor of Tasmania, the settlement retains a genuine island community character where self-sufficiency, a love of the sea, and connection to the natural environment define daily life.
Lady Barron falls under postcode 7255 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Bass (McIntyre) electorate.
