About Laguna Quays
Laguna Quays is a small coastal locality in the Mackay Region of Queensland, situated approximately 110 kilometres south of Airlie Beach and about 30 kilometres north of Proserpine, on the fringe of the Whitsundays. The locality covers around 22 square kilometres and, according to the 2021 Census, has a resident population of just 89 people. It is positioned within the Whitsunday Regional Council area and is best known for the ambitious resort and marina development that was established here in the early 1990s.
The centrepiece of Laguna Quays is its 70-berth marina, opened in 1993 as part of a $250 million resort development that once featured an 18-hole golf course, horse stables, luxury accommodation, and a beach club. The resort fell into financial difficulty and changed hands over the decades, but a small residential community has since taken root and continues to grow around this scenic waterfront location. Residents are primarily car-dependent, with Proserpine approximately 30 minutes' drive away providing access to shops, services, and the Whitsunday Coast Airport for connections to Brisbane and beyond.
Laguna Quays falls under postcode 4800 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Whitsunday electorate.
