About Lake Boga
Lake Boga is a small town in the Rural City of Swan Hill, set in the Mallee region of north-west Victoria approximately 17 kilometres south of Swan Hill and 325 kilometres from Melbourne. The town takes its name from the shallow freshwater lake it borders — a 940-hectare water storage connected to the Little Murray River — which forms the centrepiece of the community. With a population of around 982, Lake Boga is a quiet, rural locality with deep agricultural and historical roots.
Lake Boga holds a significant place in World War II history as a base for PBY Catalina flying boats, and the Flying Boat Museum commemorates this legacy. The lake itself is popular for fishing, water skiing, and bird watching, drawing visitors from across the region. The town offers a general store, sporting facilities, and a strong sense of community, while Swan Hill provides access to a broader range of services, schools, and shopping just a short drive to the north.
Lake Boga falls under postcode 3584 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murray Plains (Northern Victoria) electorate.
