About Lake King
Lake King is a small rural locality in the Shire of Lake Grace, situated in the eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 464 kilometres south-east of Perth along State Route 40 between Newdegate and Ravensthorpe. With a 2021 Census population of 84 residents spread across more than 1,370 square kilometres of agricultural and bushland, it is one of the more remote localities in the Golden Outback region. The area is a productive farming community built around wheat, cereal crops, and grain receival, with the Cooperative Bulk Handling facility marking its role in the regional grain supply chain.
Lake King is a popular stopping point for travellers on the east–west Wheatbelt road between Esperance and the northern Wheatbelt, and the locality offers access to the nearby Frank Hann National Park and its wilderness trails. The area is celebrated for outstanding displays of Western Australian wildflowers in season, drawing visitors from across the state. The Lake King saltwater lake and Mount Madden Cairn are local natural landmarks, while the heritage-listed Lake King General Store reflects the locality's long history as a service point for the surrounding farming community.
Lake King falls under postcode 6356 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
