About Leasingham
Leasingham is a historic hamlet on the southern edge of South Australia's Clare Valley, in the Mid North region approximately 117 kilometres north of Adelaide and 17 kilometres south of the town of Clare. The locality sits within the District Council of Clare and Gilbert Valleys and had a population of 114 at the 2021 Census, spread across around 12 square kilometres of agricultural land. Established in 1853 and named after a village in Lincolnshire, England, Leasingham occupies lower country at the intersection of Main North Road and connecting roads, bisected by Eyre Creek.
Leasingham is positioned on the western fringe of the Riesling Trail, a popular cycling and walking track following the former railway corridor between Auburn and Clare — making it a natural stopping point for trail users. The Clare Valley is one of South Australia's premier wine-growing regions, and the locality is surrounded by wineries and cellar doors. A restaurant, caravan park, and bed-and-breakfast accommodation cater to visitors, while dry grain farming underpins the local economy.
Leasingham falls under postcode 5452 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
