About Liffey
Liffey is a small rural locality in northern Tasmania, situated approximately 24 kilometres south of the town of Westbury within the local government areas of Meander Valley and Northern Midlands. With a population of 164 spread across a large locality of around 97 square kilometres, it is a sparsely settled farming and grazing area nestled at the foothills of the Great Western Tiers. The locality takes its name from the Liffey River, which flows through the valley and provides the watercourse for one of Tasmania's most popular natural attractions.
Liffey is best known as the gateway to Liffey Falls State Reserve, a popular natural destination featuring a series of four cascading waterfalls set within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The reserve draws bushwalkers and nature lovers from across the state and is one of northern Tasmania's most celebrated day walks. Day-to-day life in Liffey is quintessentially rural Tasmanian — farming properties, quiet country roads, and a close-knit community, with the nearby towns of Westbury and Longford providing access to services, schools, and shopping.
Liffey falls under postcode 7301 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (McIntyre) electorate.
