About Lytton
Lytton is an outer riverside locality situated approximately 20 km east-north-east of the Brisbane CBD, within the City of Brisbane's Wynnum Manly Ward. The area is predominantly industrial in character, dominated by the Port of Brisbane operations, fuel terminals, and the historic Fort Lytton — a 19th-century coastal fortification now preserved as a national park. The 2021 Census recorded no residential population, making Lytton one of Brisbane's few non-residential gazetted suburbs.
While Lytton has no residential community, it is significant for Brisbane's commerce and history. Fort Lytton National Park is a popular heritage tourism destination, offering guided tours of Australia's only intact 19th-century fort complex. The Sandy Camp Road Wetlands Reserve borders the suburb, providing habitat for migratory shorebirds. Lytton Road connects the area to Wynnum and the Gateway Motorway.
Lytton falls under postcode 4178 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Redlands electorate.
