About Maidenwell
Maidenwell is a small rural township in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, situated approximately 205 kilometres northwest of Brisbane and 30 kilometres southwest of Nanango. With a population of 227 residents spread across 73 square kilometres, the locality takes its name from pioneer settler John King, who dug the first well in the district. The surrounding landscape is characterised by undulating grazing land, state forests, and the scenic Maidenwell Range.
Maidenwell is best known for Coomba Falls, a popular picnic and swimming spot about 2 kilometres east of the town centre, featuring a deep cold pool set amid granite cliffs — a favourite for birdwatching and photography. The South Burnett Regional Council operates a community library at the CWA Hall, and the area has a strong community spirit reflected in local associations and historical ties to farming. Residents typically travel to Nanango or Kingaroy for broader shopping, healthcare, and schooling needs.
Maidenwell falls under postcode 4615 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
