About Manildra
Manildra is a small rural town in the Central West of New South Wales, located within the Cabonne Shire Council local government area, approximately 305 kilometres west of Sydney. Situated on the banks of Mandagery Creek, it lies roughly halfway between Orange (46 kilometres to the east) and Parkes (55 kilometres to the west). With a population of 529 at the 2021 census, Manildra is a compact agricultural community at the heart of a productive farming region, with its name derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'winding river'.
Manildra is home to the Manildra Flour Mill, recognised as one of the largest flour mills in the Southern Hemisphere, which has been a cornerstone of the local economy since 1952 and drives the town's significance as an industrial wheat processing hub. MSL Milling, a large canola processing plant, also operates in the town, reinforcing Manildra's agricultural industrial character. The town provides essential services for the surrounding farming district, with larger shopping and healthcare available in Orange or Parkes.
Manildra falls under postcode 2865 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Orange electorate.
