Mayfield is an established north-western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, situated approximately 6 kilometres from the Newcastle CBD and bounded by the Hunter River to the north and the Main Northern railway line to the south. The suburb dates from the 1880s and takes its name from Ada May Scholey, daughter of early landholder John Scholey, giving it a strong sense of historical identity.
