Merrygoen is a small rural township in north-western New South Wales, situated in the Warrumbungle Shire approximately 60 km north of Mudgee and 80 km south of Coonabarabran. The township covers 181.7 square kilometres of open farming country and had a population of around 115 at the 2016 census. Merrygoen was historically significant as a railway junction point where lines branched towards Troy Junction on the Coonamble line and the Gwabegar line, with a post office established as early as 1 November 1879. Today the railway station is closed, though wheat silos and freight sidings remain active.

Merrygoen is a quiet agricultural community surrounded by wheat-growing and grazing country typical of the Central Western Slopes of New South Wales.
