About Middle Beach
Middle Beach is a small coastal locality on the shores of Gulf St Vincent, approximately 40 kilometres north-west of the Adelaide CBD within the Adelaide Plains Council area. With a population of just 94, the locality covers a sprawling 47 square kilometres of low-lying coastal land characterised by mangroves, samphire swamplands, and tidal estuaries. The area has a distinctly rural-coastal character, with a small number of permanent residents drawn to its natural setting.
Middle Beach is well known among anglers and crabbers for its productive tidal channels that wind through the mangroves, and the locality features a small boat launching ramp for water access. Birdwatching and kayaking are popular activities, with the mangrove-lined waterways providing habitat for a variety of wading birds and marine life. The area has no shops or commercial services, with residents relying on nearby Two Wells and Virginia for everyday needs, and Adelaide city is about a 40-minute drive to the south-east.
Middle Beach falls under postcode 5501 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
