About Miling
Miling is a small Wheatbelt town in Western Australia, situated approximately 200 kilometres north of Perth along the Great Northern Highway within the Shire of Moora. Covering a vast area of nearly 697 square kilometres of flat agricultural land, Miling is the first true Wheatbelt town travellers encounter heading north from Perth. The town had a population of 101 at the 2021 Census, with a tight-knit community centred on the wheat and sheep farming that dominates the surrounding landscape.
Established in 1925 when the railway line from Perth was completed, Miling's most prominent landmark is the CBH grain receival complex, which handles over 100,000 tonnes of wheat, barley and lupins annually — making it one of the largest inland receival points in Western Australia. The town offers basic amenities including a general store and community hall, while the larger centre of Moora (about 45 km south) provides additional services. Miling also marks the terminus of one of WA's most scenic railway lines, winding through some of the state's most productive farming country and the Avon Valley.
Miling falls under postcode 6575 and is governed by Shire of Moora Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
