About Moorook
Moorook is a small riverside town in South Australia's Riverland region, situated on the left bank of the River Murray between Loxton and Kingston on Murray, approximately 6 kilometres south of the Sturt Highway. Part of the District Council of Loxton Waikerie, the town was established in 1922 and had a population of 171 at the 2021 Census. The locality covers around 50 square kilometres of river-country terrain, with the more populated Moorook South township sitting across from Loveday on the opposite bank.
Moorook offers a quiet, nature-focused lifestyle centred around the River Murray, with the Moorook Riverfront Reserve providing free camping, barbecues, and picnic facilities along the shady riverbank. The Moorook General Store and Post Office serves as the local hub for everyday needs. The area is popular with anglers, boaters, and those seeking a peaceful rural retreat, and the broader Riverland region is known for its orchards, vineyards, and outdoor recreation along the Murray River.
