About Mount Victoria
Mount Victoria is a historic mountain town perched at the crest of the Blue Mountains, approximately 120 kilometres west-northwest of Sydney CBD within the City of Blue Mountains local government area. Sitting at an elevation of 1,043 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest towns on the Main Western Railway line. With a population of 945 at the 2021 Census, the community is small and close-knit, attracting those drawn to the cool-climate character and heritage streetscapes of the upper mountains.
Mount Victoria's village centre retains much of its 19th-century character, with heritage-listed buildings, antique shops, and the iconic Mount Victoria Hotel offering a window into the town's colonial past. The area is popular with bushwalkers, cyclists, and weekend visitors exploring nearby Mount York, Hartley Vale, and the many trails through the surrounding Blue Mountains National Park. The railway station provides a direct service to Sydney via the Blue Mountains Line, making it accessible despite its remote mountain setting.
Mount Victoria falls under postcode 2786 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Blue Mountains electorate.
