Nanson is a small rural hamlet in the Shire of Chapman Valley, situated in the Mid West region of Western Australia along the banks of the Chapman River, approximately 25 kilometres north-east of Geraldton and around 450 kilometres north of Perth. With a 2021 Census population of 84 residents across nearly 77 square kilometres, it is a quiet agricultural community set amid the scenic farming country of the Chapman Valley. The local economy is driven by wheat, barley, canola, and livestock farming, and the area offers a relaxed, close-knit country lifestyle.
Nanson holds considerable heritage significance as one of the earliest settled localities in the Chapman Valley, with the Chapman Valley Historical Society based here. The area between Nanson and Yuna is renowned for spectacular wildflower displays from late July through October, drawing visitors from across the region.
