Narrabri is a regional town in north-western New South Wales, located approximately 550 kilometres north-west of Sydney within the Narrabri Shire local government area. Despite a population of around 7,300, its gazetted area spans a vast 1,294 square kilometres, encompassing the township and surrounding rural land in the fertile Namoi Valley. The suburb has a median age of 39 and a household income of approximately $1,590 per week, and is home to a significant Indigenous community, with Australian Aboriginal ancestry among the top ancestries recorded in the 2021 Census.
Narrabri serves as the commercial and service hub for a surrounding agricultural region known for cotton farming, wheat growing, and cattle grazing, and is well-equipped with both Coles and Woolworths supermarkets, schools, medical facilities, and community services. The town is also home to the Australia Telescope Compact Array, a world-class radio telescope facility operated by CSIRO, located about 25 kilometres west.
