About Neerabup
Neerabup is a semi-rural locality in the City of Wanneroo within Perth's northern suburbs, situated approximately 36 kilometres north of the Perth CBD on the Swan Coastal Plain. The locality covers 30 square kilometres and recorded a population of 112 at the 2021 census, retaining much of its rural character despite being surrounded by rapidly developing northern suburban corridors including Clarkson, Kinross and Joondalup. Neerabup sits on the traditional country of the Noongar people, who utilised the area's chain of seasonal wetlands and banksia woodland for more than 40,000 years prior to European settlement. A significant portion of the locality is protected as Neerabup National Park, one of Perth's metropolitan reserves protecting remnant banksia woodland and urban-edge bush.
Neerabup offers a rare semi-rural enclave within metropolitan Perth, combining the peace of acreage living, agricultural land and national park proximity with easy access to the northern suburbs' full range of services. The Joondalup city centre — one of Perth's major outer metropolitan centres — is approximately 7 kilometres to the south-west, offering major retail, the Joondalup Health Campus and TAFE campuses. Clarkson station on the Joondalup rail line is within approximately 3 kilometres, providing fast train access to Perth CBD. The Neerabup National Park protects seasonal lakes, jarrah and banksia woodland, offering bushwalking and birdwatching within the locality itself. The area is subject to ongoing urban planning pressures as Perth's northern growth corridor continues to expand.
Neerabup falls under postcode 6031 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Wanneroo (North Metropolitan) electorate.
