About Neridup
Neridup is a remote agricultural locality in the Shire of Esperance within Western Australia's Goldfields-Esperance region, situated approximately 35 kilometres north-east of the town of Esperance. Covering an expansive 859 square kilometres of sandplain farming country, the locality recorded a 2021 Census population of 92 residents, reflecting its sparse settlement pattern typical of the WA wheatbelt fringe. The area is part of the traditional country of the Noongar people and lies within a region recognised for its prime cropping land, with annual rainfall averaging around 600 millimetres.
Neridup is a sought-after farming district known for mixed grain and livestock enterprises, including wheat, barley, canola, and Merino sheep operations. The Kau Rock Nature Reserve occupies a large portion of the north-east of the locality, protecting mallee scrubland and granite rock formations in the Mallee bioregion. Residents travel to Esperance for all services, including schools, shopping, and healthcare, while the scenic Esperance coastline and the Cape Le Grand National Park are within easy reach to the south.
Neridup falls under postcode 6450 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
