About North Tammin
North Tammin (also known historically as Yorkrakine) is a small locality in the Shire of Tammin in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region, situated approximately 203 kilometres east of Perth and 23 kilometres north of the town of Tammin. The locality spans a vast 627 square kilometres of agricultural and semi-arid country characteristic of the Central Wheatbelt. At the 2021 Census, North Tammin recorded a population of 138, reflecting the sparse, rural settlement typical of Western Australia's grain-growing regions.
The area's most prominent landmark is Yorkrakine Rock, a large granite outcrop on the Yorkrakine Rock Reserve along the Tammin–Wyalkatchem Road, popular with visitors and rock-climbing enthusiasts. The historic Yorkrakine Agricultural Hall, built in 1926, continues to serve as a community gathering point for local events and functions. The locality is entirely car-dependent, with residents travelling to Tammin and the larger regional centre of Northam, approximately 120 kilometres to the west, for retail, healthcare, and education services.
North Tammin falls under postcode 6409 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
