Osterley is a small rural locality in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, situated approximately 35 kilometres north of Hamilton and within the Central Highlands Council area. Covering around 70 square kilometres of highland pastoral and forested land, the locality sits in the upper Ouse River valley. The 2021 census recorded just 17 residents, reflecting the isolated and agricultural character of the area. The River Ouse forms the eastern boundary of the locality.
Osterley is surrounded by some of Tasmania's most scenic highland country, with the Central Plateau nearby offering world-class trout fishing, hiking, and wilderness experiences. The local economy is based on sheep and cattle grazing on the elevated pastoral plains. Residents rely on nearby Bothwell (approximately 20 km south-east) for services, a historic town known for its Georgian architecture and status as the cradle of Australian golf. The locality is accessed via Victoria Valley Road (Route C173) and has no public transport services.
