About Paechtown
Paechtown is a small historic locality in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, situated approximately 30 kilometres south-east of the Adelaide CBD within the District Council of Mount Barker. The settlement lies on the southern side of the South Eastern Freeway, just 2 kilometres south of the popular German heritage town of Hahndorf. With a population of 204, Paechtown is one of the Adelaide Hills' most intimate localities, set amid the rolling hills and farmland of the Hundred of Kuitpo.
The locality takes its name from the Paech family, German settlers who were among the earliest pioneers of the Hahndorf district, arriving in the 1840s and establishing farms in the area. The proximity to Hahndorf gives residents easy access to a vibrant café and tourism scene, artisan shops, and acclaimed restaurants. The South Eastern Freeway (M1) provides a direct commute to Adelaide, making Paechtown an appealing Hills retreat within comfortable reach of the city.
Paechtown falls under postcode 5245 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kavel electorate.
