About Pallinup
Pallinup is a large rural locality in Western Australia's Great Southern region, within the Shire of Gnowangerup, covering nearly 386 square kilometres of farming country approximately 354 kilometres south-east of Perth and around 140 kilometres north of Albany. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 90 residents across this expansive area, reflecting the low-density agricultural settlement pattern characteristic of the region. The Pallinup River flows through the south-west of the locality, and the area is part of the traditional country of the Noongar people.
Pallinup borders the townsite of Gnowangerup to the east, which serves as the main service centre for the area, offering schools, shops, and essential services. Gnowangerup Airport is located within the Pallinup locality, providing a small regional airstrip for the district. The former Ongerup Branch Railway once ran through Pallinup, connecting the wheat-producing district to the port at Albany, though the line no longer operates. The locality is defined by vast cereal cropping paddocks and pastoral properties, with Albany providing access to major medical, retail, and educational services for residents of the broader Gnowangerup region.
Pallinup falls under postcode 6335 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
