About Palmers Channel
Palmers Channel is a small rural locality situated in the Clarence Valley Council area of northern New South Wales, located near the Clarence River delta approximately 20 kilometres north-east of Maclean and close to the coastal communities of Yamba and Iluka. The locality takes its name from a channel of the Clarence River that weaves through this flat, low-lying estuary landscape. With a population of approximately 115 residents and an area of around 19.4 square kilometres, Palmers Channel is a quiet, tightly knit community in one of NSW's most scenic river delta regions.
The locality is home to Palmers Channel Public School and is surrounded by the characteristic waterways, fishing grounds, and cane farms of the Lower Clarence. The region is popular with recreational fishers, boaters, and those seeking a relaxed riverside lifestyle, with the nearby surf beaches of Yamba and Iluka just a short drive away. Maclean provides access to shops, services, and schools, while the broader Clarence Valley offers a warm subtropical climate and a strong sense of community.
Palmers Channel falls under postcode 2463 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Clarence electorate.
