About Pennyroyal
Pennyroyal is a small rural locality in Victoria's Surf Coast Shire, nestled in the Otway Ranges approximately 120 kilometres south-west of Melbourne and 54 kilometres south-west of Geelong. With a population of 110 residents spread across around 37 dwellings and an area of nearly 27 square kilometres, it is a quiet, sparsely populated locality defined by its rugged bushland character. The locality straddles the Surf Coast and Colac Otway shires, sitting within the hinterland of the Great Ocean Road region.
Pennyroyal was once more established, with a historic post office, church, school, and railway station, though the area has since returned to a predominantly rural character dominated by bushland and hobby farms. The nearby township of Deans Marsh serves as the closest service hub, offering a general store and community facilities. The surrounding Otway Ranges provide excellent opportunities for bushwalking, cycling, and nature exploration, attracting visitors and tree-changers drawn to the region's natural beauty and its proximity to the Great Ocean Road.
Pennyroyal falls under postcode 3235 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Polwarth (Western Victoria) electorate.
