About Point Samson
Point Samson is a small coastal settlement in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, located approximately 1,580 kilometres north of Perth and 18 kilometres north of Roebourne, within the City of Karratha local government area. With a 2021 Census population of 249 residents across 22.6 square kilometres, it is a compact coastal community with a high median income of around 9,898 — reflective of the Pilbara's resources-driven economy. The town was formally established around 1908, with its deep-water jetty built in 1902 to service the region's pastoral and mining industries.
Today Point Samson is best known as a popular holiday and lifestyle destination for workers from nearby mining towns including Karratha, Wickham, and Dampier, drawn by its beautiful beaches, excellent fishing, snorkelling, and the relaxed seaside atmosphere. The Point Samson Resort offers accommodation and dining, and the sheltered waters of Honeymoon Cove and the surrounding coastline make it a standout destination in the north-west. Despite its remote location, the town benefits from the proximity of Karratha (approximately 40 kilometres south) for supermarkets, schools, and full services.
Point Samson falls under postcode 6720 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Pilbara (Mining and Pastoral) electorate.
