About Port Hacking
Port Hacking is a small, exclusive waterfront suburb in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, situated on the northern shore of the Port Hacking estuary approximately 26.7 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD. The suburb is one of Sydney's smallest by area at just 0.4 square kilometres, yet recorded a population of 1,210 at the 2021 census, reflecting its dense collection of waterfront homes and exclusive residential character. Port Hacking adjoins the Royal National Park — the world's second-oldest national park — to the south, giving the suburb an extraordinary natural setting of waterway, bushland and open estuary that few Sydney suburbs can match. The surrounding Port Hacking estuary is a protected waterway popular with boating, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing enthusiasts.
Port Hacking offers an aspirational waterfront lifestyle combining the serenity of an estuarine setting, direct access to the Royal National Park's extensive trail network, and proximity to Sydney's southern beaches and the services of Cronulla. Cronulla's vibrant main beach precinct with its cafes, restaurants, shops and the Cronulla station on the T4 Cronulla line is approximately 5 kilometres to the north. Caringbah (6 km) provides everyday retail and medical services. The suburb's waterfront properties command significant premiums in one of Sydney's most sought-after addresses, attracting established professional families and retirees drawn to the unique combination of water access, national park adjacency and Sydney proximity.
Port Hacking falls under postcode 2229 and is governed by Sutherland Shire Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Cronulla electorate.
