About Pozieres
Pozieres is a small rural locality in Queensland's Southern Downs Region, approximately 214 kilometres south-west of Brisbane and 20 kilometres north-north-west of Stanthorpe. The locality covers around 47 square kilometres in the elevated Granite Belt area and recorded a population of 208 at the 2021 Census. It carries historical significance as one of the Pikedale soldier settlements established following World War I, with its name commemorating the Battle of Pozières on the Western Front.
The surrounding Granite Belt landscape is characterised by open grazing land, stone country, and cool-climate conditions typical of the Darling Downs escarpment. Stanthorpe, the nearest major centre, provides a full range of services including supermarkets, schools, and medical facilities for Pozieres residents. The former Amiens branch railway once served the locality but closed long ago, leaving private vehicles as the practical means of accessing the region and the New England Highway corridor.
Pozieres falls under postcode 4352 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Toowoomba North electorate.
