About Premer

Premer is a small country town in north-western New South Wales, located approximately 50 kilometres north of Quirindi and around 80 kilometres south of Narrabri, within the Liverpool Plains Shire and Gunnedah Shire local government areas. Situated on the edge of the fertile Liverpool Plains — one of Australia's most productive agricultural regions — Premer covers around 174 square kilometres of farming country. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 126 people, reflecting the gradual decline typical of small rural service towns in inland New South Wales.

Despite its small size, Premer retains many of the facilities that define a traditional country town, including a public school, preschool, hotel, post office, town hall, church, caravan park, and community health centre. The surrounding district is predominantly given over to cropping and grazing, with the rich black soils of the Liverpool Plains supporting some of the most productive farmland in New South Wales. The town formerly had a station on the now-closed Binnaway-Werris Creek railway line, and today residents travel to Quirindi or Tamworth for a wider range of services and amenities.

Premer falls under postcode 2381 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Tamworth electorate.
