Purlewaugh is a rural locality and village in the Warrumbungle Shire of north-western New South Wales, situated in the rolling hills and open plains country between Coonabarabran and Coolah in the Barwon state electorate. The locality covers an extensive 353 square kilometres and recorded a population of 81 at the 2021 census, spread across large sheep and cattle stations in the transitional zone between the Warrumbungle Ranges and the western slopes. The name Purlewaugh is of Aboriginal origin, reflecting the deep Indigenous heritage of the Warrumbungle region. The surrounding landscape offers spectacular views toward the volcanic peaks of the Warrumbungle National Park to the north-west.

Purlewaugh's rural lifestyle is defined by extensive grazing and mixed farming on the fertile red soils and open grasslands of the western slopes.
