About Sheep Station Creek
Sheep Station Creek is a sparsely populated rural locality in the Somerset Region of South East Queensland, located approximately 14 kilometres north-north-east of Kilcoy and around 119 kilometres west-north-west of Brisbane. With a population of 116 residents in the 2021 Census spread across a vast 137 square kilometres, the locality has one of the lowest population densities in the region. It falls within the federal electorate of Blair and the state electorate of Nanango, and is characterised by open grazing paddocks, dry sclerophyll bushland, and the undulating terrain of the Somerset hinterland.
The locality takes its name from a creek flowing through the area and the pastoral heritage of the Somerset Region, which has long been defined by cattle and sheep grazing on large rural properties. Surrounding localities include Moore, Harlin, and Linville to the west, with Kilcoy providing the nearest town services including a supermarket, primary school, and basic amenities. Life in Sheep Station Creek is fundamentally rural, with residents fully reliant on private vehicles and accustomed to the wide open spaces and natural quiet of the Queensland hinterland.
Sheep Station Creek falls under postcode 4515 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
