About Silverleigh
Silverleigh is a quiet rural locality in the Toowoomba Region of Queensland, situated approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba on the southern Darling Downs plains. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 80 residents, reflecting its nature as a sparsely settled agricultural district of open farmland and grazing country. Covering around 46.6 square kilometres, the locality is characterised by rolling cropping paddocks typical of the fertile Darling Downs, with the Oakey–Cooyar Road passing through its north-western corner.
Silverleigh has a notable piece of local heritage in St Paul's Lutheran Church, established by a congregation founded in 1899 and originally opened in November 1890, standing at 617 Acland Silverleigh Road as one of the area's oldest surviving buildings. The locality's agricultural identity reflects the broader Darling Downs tradition of dryland cropping and cattle grazing on some of Australia's most productive soils. The nearby town of Oakey, approximately 20 kilometres to the south-west, provides the closest range of shops, schools, and community services, while Toowoomba offers full urban amenities within easy driving distance.
Silverleigh falls under postcode 4401 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Condamine electorate.
