About Spreyton
Spreyton is a semi-rural locality and suburb of Devonport in northern Tasmania, situated approximately 7 kilometres south of the Devonport city centre within the City of Devonport local government area. Covering around 11.5 square kilometres, it has a population of 1,876 with a median age of 41, and is characterised by a blend of residential development and agricultural land. The suburb lies close to the Mersey River and is known for its apple orcharding heritage, with the fourth-generation family business Spreyton Fresh having operated apple orchards here since 1908.
Spreyton's most famous landmark is the Big Apple — a giant fibreglass apple sculpture that has become a beloved local icon and roadside attraction. The semi-rural setting gives residents access to open space and working farmland alongside suburban amenities, while the proximity to Devonport provides access to shops, schools, and the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal. There is no passenger rail in the area; a car is the primary way to get around, with a short drive into central Devonport for most daily needs.
Spreyton falls under postcode 7310 and is governed by Devonport Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Mersey) electorate.
