About Sunnyside
Sunnyside is a small rural locality in the Kentish Council area of north-west Tasmania, approximately 16 kilometres east of the heritage town of Sheffield. With a population of around 110 residents spread across roughly 15 square kilometres, the locality is characterised by open farmland, gently rolling terrain, and a strong agricultural tradition. Gazetted as a locality in 1957, Sunnyside sits within the broader Kentish district, set between the Devonport coast and the hinterland ranges of the Mersey River valley.
Sunnyside's appeal lies in its peaceful, semi-remote setting, with easy access to the scenery and cool-climate landscapes that define north-west Tasmania. The nearby town of Sheffield — celebrated for its outdoor murals that transform the streetscape into an open-air gallery — provides essential services, cafes, and community amenities for residents. Devonport, the closest regional centre and major port city connecting Tasmania to the mainland, is accessible within roughly an hour by car, while Launceston lies around 75 kilometres to the east.
Sunnyside falls under postcode 7305 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (McIntyre) electorate.
