About Suttor
Suttor is a remote rural locality in the Isaac Region of Central Queensland, situated approximately 140 kilometres inland from Mackay. The locality covers around 370 square kilometres and is named after and bounded by the Suttor River, with the Suttor Creek forming part of its southern boundary and their confluence marking the south-westernmost point of the locality. With a 2021 Census population of just 75 residents, Suttor is a sparse and isolated pastoral area accessed via the Suttor Developmental Road which branches from the Peak Downs Highway near Nebo.
The landscape of Suttor is characterised by open savannah woodland, cattle grazing country, and the seasonally variable watercourses that define life in Central Queensland's interior. The locality falls within the Isaac Regional Council area, which administers a broad swathe of coal-rich and pastoral country stretching from the coast to the outback. The town of Nebo, approximately 30 kilometres to the south-east, provides the nearest basic services, while Mackay (approximately 140 kilometres east) is the closest city for a full range of retail, health, and education facilities. This is fundamentally a station lifestyle, suited to those engaged in pastoral or mining-related work.
Suttor falls under postcode 4743 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Burdekin electorate.
