About Tambaroora

Tambaroora is a small rural locality in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, situated approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Bathurst near the historic township of Hill End. Covering around 60 square kilometres at an elevation typical of the central-western slopes, the locality had a population of 30 at the 2021 Census. The area is historically significant as part of the 1850s New South Wales goldfields, and remnants of that gold rush era can still be found throughout the region.

The locality forms part of the broader Hill End–Tambaroora goldfields precinct, which attracted tens of thousands of diggers during the 19th century and once yielded some of the largest gold specimens in Australian history. Today the area draws fossickers, history enthusiasts and visitors to the nearby Hill End Historic Site, managed by NSW National Parks. The sparse modern population consists largely of hobby farmers and rural residents who value the area's gold rush heritage and peaceful Central Tablelands surrounds.

Tambaroora falls under postcode 2795 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Orange electorate.
