Toogoom is a coastal town in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated on the shores of Hervey Bay about 11 km west-northwest of the Hervey Bay city centre and 293 km north of Brisbane. At the 2021 census the town had a population of 2,596, making it a modestly sized beachside community with a distinctly relaxed, retiree-friendly character — the median age of 52 reflects the strong appeal this area holds for older Australians. The town covers about 16 square kilometres along the sheltered waters of Hervey Bay, known for its calm seas and whale watching.
Toogoom's main drawcard is its peaceful beachfront setting on the sheltered Hervey Bay, which offers safe swimming, fishing and boating without the crowds of more commercialised coastal towns. The suburb's older demographic enjoys a quiet seaside retirement lifestyle, with the services of Hervey Bay city (Pialba, Torquay, Urangan) accessible within a short drive.
