Tumblong is a small village community in the Riverina region of New South Wales, located within the Cootamundra–Gundagai Regional Council area at an elevation of around 303 metres. Situated approximately 18 kilometres south-east of Mundarlo and 25 kilometres north-west of Adelong, the locality sits near the Hume Highway corridor that connects Sydney and Melbourne. Tumblong was known as Adelong Crossing or Adelong Crossing Place until 1913, reflecting its historic role as a river crossing point along an important route. The area was first claimed around 1831 as the large Bangus Station squattage, and retains a rural pastoral character to this day. The nearby Hume Highway provides a link to Gundagai about 16 kilometres to the north-west and the larger centres of Wagga Wagga and Canberra for services, shopping, and employment. The Tumblong Tavern, visible from the highway, is a local landmark.
