About Undoolya
Undoolya is a suburb on the eastern fringe of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, located adjacent to the historic Undoolya Station — a pastoral lease that has operated since the 1870s. The area takes its name from an Arrernte word and is part of the Town of Alice Springs local government area. Despite its suburb designation, Undoolya has a negligible residential population and the land is largely given over to the Undoolya pastoral lease.
The broader Alice Springs area surrounding Undoolya offers a rich outback lifestyle with access to world-famous attractions including the East MacDonnell Ranges, Trephina Gorge, and Emily Gap. Alice Springs town centre is only a few kilometres to the west, providing full urban amenities including the Alice Springs Hospital, schools, and the Todd Mall shopping precinct. The area is of significant cultural importance to the Arrernte people.
Undoolya falls under postcode 874 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Namatjira electorate.
