Uralla is a charming heritage town on the New England Tablelands, perched at over 1,000 metres elevation about 23 kilometres southwest of Armidale. With a population of 2,700, it serves as a gateway to the region where the New England Highway meets Thunderbolts Way. The town was established in 1855 during a local gold rush and maintains more than 50 buildings and sites of heritage significance.

The town is famous for its connection to bushranger Captain Thunderbolt (Frederick Ward), who is buried in the local cemetery and commemorated throughout with statues, pubs, and road names.
