About Vectis
Vectis is a small rural locality in Victoria's Wimmera region, situated approximately 15 kilometres west of Horsham within the Horsham Rural City Council area. With a population of around 184 residents spread across 147 square kilometres of fertile farming country, it is one of the more sparsely populated localities in western Victoria. The district has a rich history stretching back to the 1844 Vectis pastoral run and later German-Lutheran settlement in the 1870s, which shaped its early community character.
Vectis is a predominantly agricultural locality, with farming — historically including orchards and grazing — forming the backbone of the local economy. Horsham, the regional hub of the Wimmera, provides all major services including hospitals, schools, shopping, and transport connections. The area is known for its wide open plains, big skies, and the quiet rhythms of rural life that define the Wimmera heartland.
Vectis falls under postcode 3401 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lowan (Western Victoria) electorate.
