About Villeneuve
Villeneuve is a small rural town and locality in the Somerset Region of Queensland, bordered by the D'Aguilar Highway to the north and the Stanley River and Lake Somerset to the east and south. Situated approximately 80 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, the locality covers 6.5 square kilometres and had a population of 193 at the 2021 Census. With a median household income of around $44,616, Villeneuve reflects the modest rural-residential character of the Somerset hinterland.
The locality offers a mix of rural-residential acreage properties near Lake Somerset — created by the Somerset Dam impounding the Stanley River — and working grazing land on native vegetation. The lake is a popular recreational destination for boating, fishing, and camping, drawing visitors from across South East Queensland. Two former railway stations once served Villeneuve on the now-dismantled Kilcoy railway line, but today the D'Aguilar Highway provides the main road link towards Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Villeneuve falls under postcode 4514 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
